Skyrim: 10 Most Useful Shouts and Where to Learn Them

Become Ethereal

€œThe Thu'um reaches out to the Void, changing your form to one that cannot harm, or be harmed.€ Words: FEIM (Fade), ZII (Spirit), GRON (Bind) Become Ethereal allows the user to turn incorporeal for the spell€™s duration negating all damage effects providing that you don€™t attack any enemies or otherwise interact with the world in any way. Pretty useless, you might think at first glance. But wait. There are in fact several fantastically useful functions for this unassuming little shout. The first word FEIM will allow you to turn Ethereal for 8 seconds while learning the second and third word in the phrase increases the duration to 13 and 18 seconds respectively. You can also meditate on the first word with the dragon Paarthurnax; this€™ll increase your health regeneration by 25% while the shout is active. Uses: I found myself using this shout repeatedly once I realised its potential. In Ethereal form you can€™t be hurt, provided you don€™t interact with the world; that doesn€™t mean you can€™t jump from the highest mountain you can find and walk away unscathed though. You can also sprint for the entire duration of the shout worry free as while under the effects you don€™t consume stamina. It can close a gap between you and a tough ranged foe leaving you unharmed, it can allow you to phase through traps of any kind and if you can summon creatures to help you, doing so right before you cast this shout is an excellent way to lose your enemy's immediate attention. You can even cast a spell such as Fire Cloak, followed by the Become Ethereal shout (which won€™t cancel the spell) and watch safely as your enemies burn around you. Where to Learn: FEIM: Ironbind Barrow ZII: Lost Valley Redoubt GRON: Ustengrav
