Smash Bros Ultimate: 10 Characters Who Could Be The Final DLC
2. Rex
The theory goes that the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 protagonist was initially slated to be one of the original fighters in Smash, but due to time constraints and the already heavy presence of sword fighters, he was cut from consideration.
If that’s true, it’s a real kick in the teeth for Rex fans, for a few reasons.
While there’s no denying Fire Emblem is more popular than Xenoblade Chronicles, do they really warrant seven fighters (Chrom, Roy, Corrin, Robin, Lucina, Ike and Marth) to Xenoblade’s one (Shulk)? Especially when so many of them favour sword attacks too.
Secondly, sword wielding disqualifying him rings hollow when the Dragon Quest Hero has just been added, though admittedly this is Dragon Quest’s first playable character in the game.
The theory largely stems from the fact that Rex’s avatar doesn’t appear when creating an in game tag, while lesser Xenoblade characters do, like Pyra and Mythra. None of the starting roster are available for selection either.
Whether the theory is true or not, Rex remains a solid choice. It’s great to see new games get a bit of recognition, but if any game could do with the extra representation, it’s Xenoblade Chronicles.
