Spider-Man PS4: 10 Ways It Blows Every Other Spidey Game Out The Water
3. The Boss Battles
Boss battles are a feature in the majority of video games, but they're practically a requirement in superhero titles.
As such, they can often be the make or break of superhero games. The Batman: Arkham series has had a topsy-turvy relationship with boss fights; Arkham Origins had excellent ones, while Arkham Knight's were incredibly dull. The team at Insomniac Games had no shortage of reference points when making Spider-Man's boss fights, and it's good news then that it nailed the majority of them.
Sure, one could argue that some of them are a little too similar and therefore repetitive, but none of them particularly feel like a significant deviation from the regular combat. This isn't a situation like Rise of the Tomb Raider, when suddenly Lara had to fight a helicopter and shoot it three times, these are fights with goons like Shocker and Wilson Fisk, which require you to be very vigilant and opportunistic.
The boss battles feel fitting within the game and, while they don't reinvent the wheel, they are completely serviceable and some are even quite memorable.
Which is more than can be said for any previous Spider-Man game.
