Star Wars Battlefront: 10 Tiny Details Hardcore Fans Will Love
8. ...As Are Vehicles
Starfighters have always been my favourite part of Star Wars' battles, be that on screen or off, so it comes as no surprise that I was a little upset that Battlefront's 'Fighter Squadron' mode wasn't present in the beta. That said, the offering of aircraft in Walker Assault was more than enough to wet even the best ace's appetite for aerial combat. Dogfights are far faster and more intense than players will remember from the Battlefronts of old, with a steeper learning curve accompanying DICE's ascension to the series bound to have players crashing a fair few times. I had to mess with the controls a bit to find the most comfortable playstyle, but once it paid off and my team asserted mastery of the skies it gave plenty of time to admire the design work for the various aircraft found within. The Empire's arsenal of TIE Fighters and Interceptors are sleek, smooth, and without much battle damage, whereas rebel aircraft are often charred, singed and bruised. The internal cockpits of the starfighters are also ripped straight from the film sets, though a switch to this view more often than not resulted in a speedy demise. To understand the full scale of DICE's design work a 'trophy viewer' akin to the one found in the Arkham games may be an appropriate feature for Battlefront to launch with, but as it stands don't be surprised to find yourself distracted by just how pretty everything is.
