Super Smash Bros: 10 Game Franchises We NEED To See

Square Enix

Final Fantasy is undoubtedly Square’s signature franchise, having captivated audiences for more than thirty years. VII’s Cloud Strife was selected to be the series’ representative in Wii U/3DS, likely due to his status as its most well-known protagonist rather than his game’s ties to Nintendo (VII went 22 years without appearing on one of their consoles). None of his counterparts joined him in Ultimate, though the inclusion of the ‘hero’ from Dragon Quest, Enix’s signature franchise, meant that both elements of the merged Square Enix had representatives in the game.

Chrono Trigger is one of the most underrated masterpieces of all time. Created as a collaboration between the creators of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest several years before the merger of their companies, it still stands out today as one of the greatest RPGs of all time. It has surprisingly never been revisited outside of a quasi-sequel on the PS1, though the original has been remade on a handful of occasions, most recently on the DS a decade ago.

Whilst Final Fantasy is closely tied to Sony nowadays, Chrono Trigger is still more firmly associated with Nintendo. Super Smash Bros has been used in the past to bring attention to forgotten franchises (such as Kid Icarus) and by including Crono (and perhaps either Magus or Frog given their status as fan favourites) they could cast some attention onto one of the finest games to ever grace once of their consoles once more.
