Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC: 9 Echo Fighters Nintendo MUST Add
2. Mario - Paper Mario
Outside of a tributary stage exclusive to Smash's 3DS outing, Nintendo's spin-off RPG series has never been given the attention it deserves. Whether that's down to Nintendo not wanting even more versions of Mario clogging up an already massive roster or due to the difficulty of making a 2D character work on a 3D plane, who knows, but neither excuse holds much weight any longer.
Echo Fighters exist precisely to allow multiple versions of the same character to coexist in the space between wholly original and outright clone, a middle ground that Paper Mario is ripe for filling. As an Echo of Mario's standard form, the only change necessary would be replacing the Super Mario Sunshine-inspired FLUDD attack with Paper Mario's skull-cracking mallet. The Final Smash need only have its three-dimensional fireballs made flat and we'd be golden. As for the latter concerns, well, Mr. Game & Watch has already proven that Sakurai knows how to solve the two-dimensional problem.
Remember: if Dr. Mario can be considered distinct enough from his non-medically qualified self to get a standalone spot on Smash's roster, then so can the plumber's paper self.
