Terry Pratchett's Discworld: 9 Steps To Create The Perfect Game

8. The Dream Team

BethesdaBethesdaTaking on a fictional universe with a passionate fanbase like Discworld is playing with fire. Hand the reigns to an unworthy team, and it will fall flat. In which case you can expect hordes of Pratchett's followers rattling the developer's gates, pitchforks and flaming torches in hand. So, before you fire off your idea to Pratchett Inc., first make sure your team is up to the task. As a rough guideline, if your previous experience is made up entirely of Kinect-based party games or Free-2-Play trash with names like Candy Rush B*stard Megamix, you need not apply. On the other hand, if you have spent the last decade or so creating and refining the most loved adventure role-playing games of all time, consider yourself shortlisted. BioWare, Bethesda Softworks, we're looking at you. The Elder Scrolls franchise could prove a worthy foundation, while BioWare's work on Mass Effect and Dragon Age has positioned them to pull a woolly Discworld jumper over a more focused RPG experience. The only concern is whether either of these teams would be able to inject the sense of humour which defines the Discworld brand, so the writers will have to be on point (more on that after the break). Alternatively, maybe your company's name has been attached to a host of memorable episodic adventure titles, some riddled with razor sharp wit, others laden with suspense and impeccable narrative hijinx. Who would Discworld caretaker Rhianna Pratchett like to see behind the wheel? "I'm not sure who the right company would be, but I'd certainly like to see what Telltale would do for example - although they have a lot on their plate at the moment". Right, so that puts Telltale firmly on the shortlist. Between those three - Bethesda, BioWare and Telltale - we're sure to find the perfect team to partner with Terry Pratchett's esteemed creation.
