The Avengers Project Video Games: Everything You Need To Know

7. Insomniac's Spidey (Probably) Won't Be In It

Oddly enough, one of the hottest questions on people's lips following the announcement in question wasn't actually about the Avengers, but instead about Insomniac's Spidey title, a project we've all been hotly anticipating for some time now.

With yesterday's press release promising both an "original story" and a new universe, fans were hopeful that Insomniac's Spidey exclusive might be seeing some of that same universe-building action. Hopes for such a crossover were, however seemingly, squashed this morning, with Insomniac taking to Twitter to provide an answer that kind-of-but-doesn't-really-explain-the-situation-but-ok.

As you can see for yourself, Insomniac's Twitter dude has been hard at work providing answers to those hopeful regarding the chances of another Spidey/Avengers crossover. Though the studio states that they're working on an "all-new" title, it doesn't necessarily offer a concrete answer regarding the crossover potential of their Spidey-project.

Problems obviously lie in the fact that Insomniac's title is a PS4-exclusive, and therefore not wholly compatible with a cross-platform universe, but it's still possible that a solution lies on the horizon. And while it is still kind of a bummer that Spidey is experiencing difficulties joining his costumed buddies again, it's obvious there's more than enough quality in both projects to make them worthwhile releases in their own right.

So, my advice ultimately boils down to 'watch this space'. Unless Insomniac come out with a resounding 'no' when posed with the next inevitable flurry of questions regarding Marvel's gaming designs, it's best to hold onto at least a smidge of hope that the two universes might intersect eventually.

After all, if Peter Parker can now hang out with Iron Man with the MCU, who's to say what could happen?

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
