The Avengers Project Video Games: Everything You Need To Know

6. It's Going To Have A Completely Original Story

Marvel

A given, considering the ever-present dismal state of movie tie-in releases, but still, we have confirmation that what we're getting is something altogether new and different than other Marvel excursions across the cultural sphere, whether that be in film, TV, or otherwise.

The sombre tone of the trailer also points towards the disassembly of the Avengers themselves, with the team's iconography littered across what could very well be a war zone. This would seemingly make reference to the controversial 'Disassembled' story-arc that heralded Brian Bendis' tepid affair with the license.

Being dubbed as a 'project', it could be that the release will charge players with assembling their own Avengers, bringing the band back together to face a threat that would probably blow up a few buildings or something. Y'know, Avenger-y type stuff.

And of course, there's the matter of the trailer's narrator. In this instance, I'd say your guess is as good as mine, though the fact they ended their speech with a call to reassemble would point towards previous Avengers membership. Could this be the Wasp trying to bring the band back together? Who knows.

What we do know, however, is that the Avengers have been AWOL for some time now, times are desperate, and a former member is trying to bring them back together. It's as good a premise as any other, and if it gives players the excuse to craft their own team, then, well, that's even better.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
