The Elder Scrolls VI: Every Rumour & Confirmed Detail So Far
10. The Creation Engine Returns
The Creation Engine, itself a fork of the earlier Gamebryo code used to develop The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, will be returning for The Elder Scrolls VI. And you can almost hear the groans from a certain section of the fandom.
The Creation Engine took everything that was good about Gamebryo and then added enhancements like new rendering and lighting alongside middlewares such as Havok Behaviour to enhance physics. The engine has been added to for every game, with new features added and older ones built upon or replaced to stay modern, and this has resulted in an engine that developers are familiar with while constantly being updated.
Photogrammetry may be the only new technology we've seen proof of for The Elder Scrolls VI so far, we do have an extensive list of things added to the engine since the release of Skyrim.
These include another new renderer, a whole new landscape system, and a new lighting model, amongst other things. While all of these will be present in the next Bethesda game Starfield, we know from a podcast last year that a brand new animation system is being worked on for "a title in pre-production" that will show up there first.
