Mega-Evolutions

I had originally written my verdict on this and wasn't as tough on it as I will be now, but since my original write-up, they have added 3 more additions to the Mega-Evo set, in the form of the original trio Charizard, Blastoise, and Venasaur, and so I had to re-write all this expressing my anger at this decision. However, there is a flip side; it is something I could easily avoid
if I wanted to, and this is explained later in the article. I wasn't too fussed about the mega evolutions to begin with, mainly because they were for more modern Pokémon and they didn't really pioneer the franchise in any form. However, when I saw the first big change happening to Mewtwo, it really did grind my gears how they created in 99' a massive story behind the origin of Mewtwo which immersed the audience, and then they came up with this idea which literally has no logic behind it. It appears to be just a classic case of ideas running low, so they are going backwards. Alongside this, they recently decided to give new forms to the original 3 badasses of Pokémon, which probably makes every child who has played since the very beginning flame with anger, but I think Charizard being tampered with was hinted at with the re-introduction of the Pokémon in the anime recently. There are both good and bad aspects to the new evolutions, the main point being that the change isn't permanent, with it only happening in battle if you have the correct items attached to said Pokémon. Another recently revealed piece of gameplay showed that dependent of the game you play, some Pokémon, when they mega-evolve, will have a different form in correlation with the title they are playing, which I think is pretty neat. The ability for some to change type when evolving is also kind of cool, but taking this all into account, my roots of nostalgia still can't get over the fact they have tampered with Gen1 Pokémon, when it wasn't at all necessary. I would have been much happier to see this mega-evolution style take effect for new gen Pokémon alone, but I expect this was only being done to introduce the more modern audience to the grassroots of Pokémon. If they wanted that, however, the new title could have been built with the ability to travel to every region we have been introduced to so far
