6. Xbox Clarifies Priorities: Current Gen Or Next Gen?
If there's one thing that Microsoft has made clear with all of its studio acquisitions, it's that they've got big plans for the next generation of consoles. Six new studios have joined the publisher, along with their new in-house studio The Initiative. Microsoft must be salivating at the firepower they'll be packing once the next generation starts up.
The real question here, however, is whether this recent activity indicates that Phil Spencer and the rest of the company has turned their sights to the future, effectively leaving the current gen to just finish its course. While the arrival of a new console generation is always exciting, fans need to know if the platform they own will continue to be supported.
They likely won't make any major announcements regarding their next system (that's prime E3 2019 material), but if they take the opportunity to announce some big exclusives for the Xbox One, it'll at least put Xbox gamers' minds at ease after many of them just bought their pricey Xbox One X's during Black Friday. Regardless of which side they choose, a greater understanding of where the company's priorities are would at least offer up some needed answers.
