The Last Of Us 2: 10 Things Fans DON'T Want To See
5. Ellie Not Learning The Truth About Joel
The ending of The Last Of Us can be considered to be one gigantic tease for the future sequels. Ellie never learned the truth about what Joel did to the Fireflies to save her, and in so doing, doom the rest of humanity to never recover from this apocalypse.
Ending on that note and then promising a sequel is the equivalent of loading a bullet engraved with the words "Ellie learns the truth" into the chamber of Chekhov's gun. So any worthwhile sequel to The Last Of Us has no choice but to pull the trigger.
Ellie is twice the person Joel is, by the man's own admission, so there's no way she would be down with what Joel did to save her. Even if it ultimately ends with her forgiving him, you don't have a sword of Damocles hanging like that unless you have every intention of cutting it free and watching it fall.
Bottom line, Ellie needs to learn the truth about what happened to the Fireflies. Leaving this up in the air will do nothing but tick everyone off.
