The Last Of Us 2: 9 Details You Totally Missed From E3
6. Wounds Need To Be Manually Healed
Ellie gets beaten up, shot, dragged and has an arrow put through her shoulder.
Ouch.
If games were to be too realistic, our protagonist would die every time we took a bullet, so audiences can get on board with Ellie taking a hit or two. After all, Joel simply shrugged off bullets and axes with a simple bandage around his arm.
The trailer shows Ellie pulling the arrow out of her shoulder, and this is a detail that is simple to overlook. But when you remember that it is gameplay you are watching, one realises that this could be a realistic and welcomed detail to the healing process in The Last Of Us: Part 2.
No longer do we have a bandages-heal-all-wounds mechanic, but we now have to take extra care, pulling arrows out to help heal ourselves. Not to mention other self-surgeries we may have to perform throughout the game, as arrows are sure to not be the only thing we'll have to rip out.
This improved healing also means that combat could get even more intense when we find ourselves in life or death situations, which will be all too familiar to those who played the first game.
