The Last Of Us 3: 10 Things We DON'T Want To See
5. Plot Armour
Plot armour has long been a contentious topic when it comes to narrative. Game of Thrones' Daenerys, Call of Duty: Ghosts' Walker brothers or Sword Art Online's Kirito are some prime examples of characters that just will not die, no matter how many mistakes they make or how hurt they get.
Between how long it will have taken them to get back to Jackson from Seattle, and how beat up the trio were after their confrontation with Abby in the theatre, Tommy should have died after being shot in the head.
Some of you may point to Carl's survival in The Walking Dead following a similar injury, but he had the benefit of a small hospital just a few metres away. Tommy did not.
Whether they were too afraid to write off another returning character, there was extremely little chance of him surviving such an obvious wound.
A great apocalyptic universe is one where no characters feel safe, so the unrealistic survival of some scenarios needs to be ditched, and added drama and intensity must be found through other aspects of the writing.
