The Last Of Us 3: 10 Things We DON'T Want To See
6. Frequent Time Jumps
Although it helped to tell a more complete story and flesh out the characters, it was easy to get to lost in all of LoU 2's time-jumping unless you were paying close attention.
We had modern-day Ellie, Ellie in between the games, modern-day Abby that acts in tandem with modern-day Ellie but is shown after, Abby during the events of the first game...
It just became too much.
Done right, this can be a great way of telling a wider narrative, but too often in the sequel the jumps in time and between perspectives were too densely packed and quickly became jarring.
Not to say that they necessarily did it "wrong" - the backstory of Abby and her father certainly helped to give her character a more rounded appeal and understand her a bit more - but things could've been paced a little better.
Moving from flashbacks inside of flashbacks to huge leaps forward in time consecutively is always going to seem slightly off.
