The Last Of Us Episode 4 Review - 6 Ups & 2 Downs
1. Humanising The Hunters
With the introduction of the Hunters we also get a look at their leader, Kathleen, played by the excellent Melanie Lynskey.
This backstory is mostly setting up her role in the next episode, but it’s still an interesting new wrinkle to the story and again, humanises faceless villains from the game. The world building of the QZ suffering through an uprising, and then the reality of that new group becoming just as violent and oppressive is an intriguing concept hopefully further explored in Episode 5.
However, right now, I’m not entirely sure on Kathleen as a character. Her timid, shaky characterisation could potentially play into the idea that she’s been thrust into this leadership position, presumably after the death of her brother who was previously in charge. That could explain why she seems so in over her head, but we’ll have to wait and see on that.
I will give a big up to game Tommy’s actor making the jump across to live action to play Kathleen’s menacing second in command though. Superb beard.
