The Legend Of Zelda: 10 Best Intro Dungeons

6. Twilight Princess: Forest Temple

Seemingly responding to the backlash from The WInd Waker's cartoon-y cel-shaded graphics, Nintendo pulled a 180 with its Gamecube and Wii follow up Twilight Princess, producing a game which aimed to be the darkest of the series to date, taking the mantel from the (relatively) realistic styles of the series' Nintendo 64 titles.

However, Twilight Princess was not without its flaws. Most notably, the tutorial took several hours to complete, meaning even expert players had to trawl through endless cut scenes and unskippable text boxes before reaching the meat of the game.

The unnecessarily long introduction is worth ploughing through, though, as Twilight Princess boasts the best dungeons of the entire series.

The Forest Temple is gorgeous to look at, and blurs the lines between outdoor and indoor segments, making the Temple seem more integrated with the overworld than most dungeons in the franchise.

Kicking off a string of unique dungeon designs, the Forest Temple is built around the central conceit of freeing monkeys from cages. Link's new simian friends return the favour by propelling the Hero of Time across a great chasm, imbuing the dungeon with a sense of micro-narrative not seen in any that had come before it.
