The Legend Of Zelda series has come up with some of the niftiest and most creative items in video game history. In its 34 year run, each game has brought out new and exciting tools for the player to use in the fight against evil.

A deeply immersive fantasy game, the items tend to serve the purpose of placing the player on a journey. As Link, the hero, you start out defenceless and vulnerable, but as you add to your arsenal, Link and the player feel their strength growing.

What was once an insurmountable task - saving the world - gradually feels less daunting.

Link has had the opportunity to get his hands on some immensely powerful items over the course of the series, from blessed swords to explosives, and in some instances the very source of all the power in the land.

Choosing the most powerful of all is a tough task, as they serve such different purposes, but ultimately in a series like Zelda it comes down to a simple question:

Which of Link’s tools is capable of causing the most mayhem?

10. Ball And Chain

Twilight Princess has some of the most fun items in the Legend Of Zelda series, with the spinner and the double clawshot offering some of the best ways to traverse the world ever conceived of. For pure destructive power, though, there’s no topping the ball and chain.

From the moment you lay eyes on it, the ball and chain is a blast. Wielded by a mini boss who wants to use it to bash your head in, it looks like a blast even while you dodge it as it flies towards you. Unusually, though, once you best the baddie, you actually get to keep it.

Once it’s in your grasp, the ball and chain lives up to the hype. It’s primarily used for the Snowpeak Ruins dungeon, but players with a lust for carnage can use it to smash strong baddies to bits with a single swing. It doubles as an example of Link’s sheer strength - though a skinny young lad, with little visible exertion he can lift this enormous iron orb above his head and fling it with incredible force at his foes.
