The Legend Of Zelda: 8 Things It Must Fix From The Past Games

3. Stop Trying To Recreate A Link To The Past.

When it came out on the SNES in 1991, A Link To The Past represented not one but two brave new worlds. There was the sprawling and diverse Hyrule, something that Ocarina Of Time really ran with when the series went 3D, but the real hook was the Dark World, a decidedly wonky alternate version of Hyrule filled with even more dangerous critters and new challenges. Nothing quite like it had ever been seen before in video games, and Link To The Past endures as a classic even now. Unfortunately, this being Nintendo, they've made fairly regular efforts over the years to recycle the concept, and it's getting more than a little old. The Twilight realm of Twilight Princess is the most obvious example, even if it did force you to explore the ethereal landscape as a dog ridden by a midget. Since then we've also had a return visit to the SNES version of Hyrule and its Dark World in A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS and made frequent trips to the decidedly dark Silent Realm in Skyward Sword. It's probably exceptionally tempting to introduce a shadowy version of the open world they're planning but it's not something we need to see again. Sometimes less is more and having the one game world is just fine.
