4. Don€™t Prompt The Player Every Five Minutes

'Hey! Listen!' A two word phrase that should fan the flames of a murderous rage in every Legend of Zelda fan. Spoken frequently and incessantly by Ocarina Of Time's guide and chief irritant, Navi the fairy, the phrase quickly became a dreaded occurrence, inciting a Pavlovian reaction of irritation, swearing, and an urge to grab the floating magical bollock, strap it to an arrow and aim for the sun. Navi was supposed to be helpful, pointing the player toward the next objective in a game world that would have seemed daunting, but in reality the fairy would interrupt your personal adventuring and side quests every few minutes to make sure you remembered there was a story going on. It really broke the flow of finding your own adventure, a cornerstone of the series, and exploring the huge new map. With an even bigger step in world building being promised on the Wii U, Nintendo will be figuring out how best to guide the player. Given that modern gamers don't take as kindly to handholding as the N64 generation, the development team might want to be a little more subtle. Skyward Sword's directional advice system was a good step, but Nintendo should trust the player to figure things out for themselves.
