The Witcher 3: 7 Book Stories All Wild Hunt Fans Should Read
1. Something More
What It’s About: Geralt saves a merchant named Yurga, invoking the Law of Surprise in exchange for his assistance.
Geralt encounters Dandelion, because of course he does, revealing that Cintra, Geralt's original destination, has been sacked and ravaged, the queen is dead and Ciri likely is as well. Yaruga learns his wife took in a girl whom he gives to Geralt as payment. To the witcher's joy, he learns the girl is Ciri.
Why You Should Read It: This right here is where it all begins. Wild Hunt’s sodden, decaying aesthetic is born of a world stricken by a war of conquest, andparts of this story read like a scene from the game. The turn the world takes to go down this harrowing path is a watershed moment in the stories.
But not the most important thing to be found in the tale.
That honour goes to the far more permanent reunion between Geralt and Ciri. The two being reunited through a second bout of the Law of Surprise shows just how tied together they are. In many ways the story is about Geralt confronting his destiny, from meeting the witch who may be his mother to opening himself up to this young girl who really just wants him to be her cool dad.
How important she does become to the witcher… well, that’s something Wild Hunt players know all too well about.
For the rest of you, enjoy chasing her down across muddy fields and dank swamps for fifty bloody hours.
