Tomb Raider: All 12 Games Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Tomb Raider: Legend (2006)

Throughout the early 2000s, the Tomb Raider series was lost in the wilderness, with the horrific Angel of Darkness deterring Eidos from making another game in the series until 2006. Thankfully, Lara's return was a triumphant one, as Tomb Raider finally got the overhaul it had been waiting for since its inception. Legend is the earliest Tomb Raider game that still feels highly playable by today's standards. The animations are fantastic, Lara looks as sexy and lethal as ever, and there's a return here to the exploratory, puzzle-solving gameplay that made the original games so great. Obviously, lecherous low-angle shots of Lara's long legs and pert behind are plentiful (see picture), but would it be a Tomb Raider game without them? Lara's grappling hook and bullet-time gunplay were excellent additions to Lara's bag of tricks, although the simplified action set-pieces and quick-time events- which would've been impressive in 2006 - might grate on jaded gamers' nerves today.
