Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5: 10 Extreme Sports Sequels We Actually Needed
5. Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX
Feel free to switch out Mr. Hoffman for Dave Mirra if you happened upon the latter's entry to the genre first, as although that made for a more realistic and causal take on the idea of riding a BMX like Evil Knieval, it was Hoffman's very Tony Hawk-like game that played far better. If you clocked THPS 2 you already knew what you were in for, as there was an unlockable easter egg that opened up a section of this game. The full release was an execution on the standard Hawk patent in everything from box art to half-pipes, which providing you just wanted more of that glorious control scheme and a smattering of new levels, was just what the Hawkster ordered. Both Mat Hoffman releases did very well considering such staunch opposition, and now that Pro Skater 5 has attempted to get skateboarding back into the cultural conscience, perhaps it's about time BMX's got their second wind too?
