Being the one that started it all, the introduction to the franchise broke new ground with its fantastic first outing, immediately inaugurating the pro skater name into the PlayStation hall of fame.

This initial entry quickly became revered in the video game industry, almost as hastily as it aged, with its successors innovating, tweaking and fine-tuning the elements that made the original a household name by vastly building on the foundation laid.

The first entry's biggest drawback is that it doesn’t incorporate some of the biggest staples of the series. The spine transfer, manual (and every variation of it) are vacant from the initial experience.

That didn’t stop it from instantly garnering a reputation as the must have hit of that year while helping to define voice of the generation that discovered it.

Cultivating many people into a still concurrent love affair with once obscure genres of music like hip-hop, nu metal and other once niche types of music. Almost giving birth to what could only be considered an attitude era, if the WWE didn’t already attain that moniker beforehand.

The first Tony Hawk game is not a product of its time. It’s an absolutely vital piece of pop culture history that has etched its place as a cultural milestone in its industry, sport and society as a whole.
