6. Metal Gear Solid 2
KonamiMetal Gear Solid, let alone the NES original, probably confused many when they realized that the game they purchased required more stealth and tact to complete it. Metal Gear Solid has since become one of Konamis big guns, and chances are gamers, regardless of how often they play video games, know what its about. Chances are those same gamers experienced a similar reaction when they excitedly popped in Metal Gear Solid 2 into their PlayStation 2 disc trays. Of course, to everyones surprise, this entry would turn out much differently than what people were expecting. Everyone knew that Snake would sneak through a tanker thanks to a demo. We were excited, and it took very little time to play through it, eagerly awaiting the next portion of the game. Then we were introduced to a skinnier man whom the Colonel referred to as Snake. Of course, we saw that this man is not the same Snake know from previous games, and this imposters real name is Raiden. Its just a funny joke, right? Nope. Regardless of your stance on Raiden, the game seems like a solid follow up to the first game; its almost as if Metal Gear Solid 2 is trying to recreate it. Things become messed up once Raiden discovers the Patriots. The Colonel and Rose start spouting nonsense such as needing more scissorscompletely irrelevant to Raidens situation. But it gets weirder. During the fight where Snake and Raiden square-off against the terrorists, the game over screen will abruptly trigger with the words Fission Mailed. Kojima tries to convince players to reset the game. Given that one of the puzzles in Metal Gear Solid is to plug the controller into the second controller port, its hard not to go with it. This, of course, is the perfect moment for those in your life to walk in on you playing the game.
