Not merely content to drain our wonderful Earth of its resources, the Union Aerospace Company (UAC) figured out a way to siphon raw energy from Hell to Mars in an attempt to solve the energy crisis on Earth that they themselves started.
But of course, opening a gateway to Hell has the most predictably disastrous consequence of causing its denizens to spill out onto Mars, all while those at the top of UAC become so obsessed with Hell that they start worshipping the demons that reside there.
The most immediate victims of all Hell breaking loose are, of course, UAC's own employees - the scientists at ground zero who are unable to defend themselves in any way.
Plus, as UAC has a monopoly on all off-world transport, fleeing isn't much of an option.
