6. Nepal Helicopter - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Uncharted 2's stunning environments perfectly recreate the diverse settings on offer. From luscious jungles to breathtaking mountain ranges, Uncharted 2 improves greatly on its predecessor in the locations department during Nate's quest to find the Cintamani Stone and the lost paradise of Shambhala.
One such example of its beauty is a segment in a Nepalese town in Chapter 6, where Nate's efforts to locate a temple providing yet another breadcrumb on the trail are rudely halted by the unforgiving gunfire of an angry helicopter. After besting a few baddies, the building in which Nate is seeking refuge from the onslaught of bullets begins to crumble to the ground as he battles the enemies around him.
The scene gives the situation an immediate sense of urgency, as finding cover behind a nearby crate isn't enough to temporarily de-escalate the hostility. Though the scene is still a linear affair, the desperation in the player to get to safety is unrivalled.
Offering a setting so much better than the drab forests of Drake's Fortune was a big enough leap to justify its existence, but being front and centre while the very same environments collapse under Nate's feet was a sight plenty of games have since tried to replicate.
