Toriel? Undyne? Sans? - Which Undertale characters garnered the most LV?

It has been roughly six years since Toby Fox's classic indie title Undertale was released. Who would have thought that this small game brought to life by a passionate developer and a Kickstarter campaign would become such a juggernaut in the gaming world?

There are many reasons why gamers and critics still love to talk about this game so long after its debut, and much of it comes from the fact that it was such a special experience.

The gameplay was original, the dialogue was witty, and the narrative was writhe with charm/emotion. But, with that being said, it's easy to say that one of Undertale's biggest selling points was its character roster.

The monsters who inhabit The Underground are some of the most colourful creations in the entire gaming sphere, even spawning hundreds of subcultures based around them. Whether that's artistic merchandise, alternate universes or fan art, it proves that each character has become a fan-favourite, which makes sorting them from worst to best an almost impossible task.

However, by looking through each of them (none of which are bad), we can see the merits and quirks of the game itself and reflect on why it's still so popular to this day.

10. Asriel

Part of what made Undertale such a great title was the focus on finding non-violent solutions. In a typical choice-based game, your decisions have an impact but end up sticking to a somewhat similar script with some alternative moments at the climax. However, choosing to go down the pacifist route in Undertale doesn't just change a brief cutscene at the end; it alters the entire story and introduces you to Asriel.

Asriel is the son of Toriel and Asgore - someone might want to get them a baby naming book - and although he only properly appears in the true pacifist ending, you do get to know him throughout in his flower form, Flowey. Overall, Asriel is a tough boss battle with a superb design, but he makes his biggest mark after you save him and meet his true form.

He delivers one of the most emotional moments in the whole game, looking back on his errors and repenting, but also refusing to go to the surface and live the life he wanted. The fact that he's at the bottom comes down to his having spent very little time in the game and that many (more violent) players might not even meet him at all.
