WWE 2K15: 10 Things 2K Can Learn From Past Games

3. Button Mashing Felt Good

One of the changes to wrestling video games that seems to be here to say is the pinning game mechanic. Back in the day, whether it worked or not, players would button mash to try and kick out. Now if you get pinned, you have to watch a bar under your character and time the little circle to hit a specific section of the bar. If you miss, it's likely that you're going to be pinned. Holding down a single button works, but it doesn't really give that same satisfying feeling that button mashing used to give. Maybe it wasn't healthy for the controllers, and maybe it hurt the thumbs and wrists after awhile, but being able to kick out at two and a half after a finisher by mashing at the buttons practically gave a euphoric feeling knowing that your character was able to continue the match and potentially gain a comeback. If the WWE 2k15 game dropped the circle/bar game mechanic and went back to button mashing, it would be yet another way to make the gameplay simple and fun. Nothing beats knowing that you did all you possibly could to kick out rather than lose the game because you didn't time that circle just right.
