WWE 2K17: 10 Entrances They Must Get Right
Good luck with Nakamura and Sasha, 2K Sports...
WWE 2K17 is on its way, and 2K Sports have a challenge on their hands if they’re to better last year’s incarnation.
2K16 saw the developers create one of the best wrestling games in years by taking the 2K15 blueprint, tightening the nuts and bolts, and expanding the features. The gigantic roster and new reversal system, among other changes, almost made 2K16 feel like a brand new game, and while it wasn’t without its flaws, the game was a triumph on the whole.
2K Sports are nothing if not ambitious, and they’ve already announced several major changes ahead of 2K17’s October 11th release date. With an improved creation suite, more forgiving reversal timings, and alterations to the submission and chain wrestling systems, the game is well-positioned to become 2K’s strongest offering yet.
There have been no real indications towards the final roster count yet, but last years game saw a colossal 120 unique playable characters. 2K continue to outdo themselves with every new release, and with 50 names already confirmed, WWE 2K17 should have a massive character roster each complete with their own looks, movesets, and entrances.
Entrances are particularly important to a wrestler’s identity. From Stone Cold’s glass shatter to Kane’s hellfire & brimstone, some of the biggest stars in wrestling history have been characterised by their iconic arrivals, and while 2K have usually done a good job of capturing such entrances, they can’t let things slip this year.
Here are 10 WWE 2K17 entrances that they must get right.
10. American Alpha
Chad Gable and Jason Jordan have made a relatively quiet start to life on SmackDown Live thus far, but they look all but certain to become major stars in the show’s threadbare tag division.
A lack of competition coupled with Alpha’s popularity, chemistry, and exciting wrestling style makes them a surefire New Era hit, and while WWE games’ rosters are typically a few months out of date upon release, there’s a strong chance they’ll make it into WWE 2K17.
Their entrance is relatively straightforward: the music hits, and after a brief delay, the tracksuit-clad Jordan and Gable leap onto the stage with their boundless energy, unfurling the “Ready, Willing, and Gable” towel, and whipping the crowd into a frenzy.
There’s nothing technically tricky about this one. There are no fancy props outside of the towel, and their entrance attire shouldn’t be difficult to recreate even through 2K’s robust creation system. The key point is capturing the infectious enthusiasm that pours from American Alpha as they enter the arena.
This is the quality that fans started connecting with in the first place, and 2K Sports haven’t always done the best job of capturing that energy and portraying it in the game. Get it right with Jordan and Gable, however, and they’ll be onto a winner.
