It looks like anyone who was expecting to play WWE 2K22 in 2021 is going to be disappointed.

Fightful Select spoke to several wrestlers about the game over SummerSlam 2021 weekend, all of whom had been told that 2K22 wouldn't be coming out this year. Take-Two Interactive are yet to officially confirm a release date and had no information for Fightful, who reached out to the publishers.

The wrestlers in question were informed that WWE 2K22 would likely factor into WWE's marketing plan for WrestleMania season. 'Mania 38 is set to go down in Arlington, Texas on 3 April 2022.

Further updates on WWE 2K22 are expected this weekend, including a big announcement during tonight's SummerSlam pay-per-view. Only a handful of screenshots have made it to the internet thus far, with 2K22 looking like a notable graphical upgrade on the series' previous entries.

As reported last week, WWE 2K22 has been "completely rebuilt" from the ground up following the catastrophe that was WWE 2K20, which was released full of bugs, glitches, and other problems in October 2019. WWE's last game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds, came out last September.
