With Xbox leading the charge of backwards compatibility, it is fitting to find so many gems from generations past lurking on Game Pass. But as always, the amount of choice can leave you a touch paralysed.

There's plenty to recommend Game Pass to gamers in general, but the question here is whether there's enough on offer for the classically oriented player to be worth their while.

As much as many of us might want to resist the designation, the more time passes, the more we have to admit that even Xbox 360 back-compat titles are "classics"; approaching "retro" at a pace I can scarce cope considering.

There's a range of titles of Game Pass from across the generations, from brand new titles all the way back to the glory days of the original Xbox.

Now, if you are in the mood for reliving those gaming memories of a bygone youth, or even just delving into some video game history, then look no further than this list for direction on which titles to get under your belt.

10. Dante's Inferno

God of War it ain't, try as it might, but that doesn't mean this decidedly idiosyncratic retailing of the Divine Comedy isn't fun to play.

If you're looking for a horror-inflected action adventure title, Dante's Inferno is a nice find for a Game Pass subscriber.

Taking inspiration from Dante Alighieri's 14th century epic poem (and awfully loose inspiration at that), you play as a Templar who is guided by the spirit of the ancient Roman poet Virgil through the nine circle of Hell, fighting to save your love Beatrice from the clutches of Lucifer.

To be honest, that descriptions alone should sell it, as well as the similarities to the early God of War titles in terms of gameplay and mechanics. You get that familiar and engaging feeling from the gameplay, with an interesting and really well designed series of enemies and levels.

All in all, Dante's Inferno is perfect for scratching that sort of dungeon crawling come hack and slash itch you might have and is one of the top tier backwards compatible titles on Game Pass.
