2. Backwards Compatibility
Here we are; the sole reason no next generation gamer has shelved their last generation consoles yet. I hate to sound so negatively blunt, but the lack of backwards compatibility for both consoles can only be described as stupid. Imagine if with your PS3 you also had to have a PS1 and PS2 wired in to your entertainment center just to get your classic gaming fix on? Pain in the butt would not even begin to accurately describe that predicament. Even Microsoft realized this mistake with the Xbox 360 and patched in regular Xbox backwards compatibility for popular games. This generation is different though, as Sony just seems content with shoving Gaikai streaming service upon us. This feature isnt available yet but Sony says it will have an impressive catalog of games that spans all previous PlayStation consoles. What theyre hiding is their probable scam to make us rebuy these games, many of which we probably already own either physically or digitally. Microsoft just seems to not care about the situation at all and remains silent. For now we must deal with fire hazard entertainment centers that have every pertinent console hooked up. This is a problem that will most likely never get fixed, unless both Sony and Microsoft release entirely new models for their consoles. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both do not contain the necessary hardware to run DVDs or even audio CDs, something that cannot be fixed with a firmware update. As for the PlayStation 4 being unable to play PlayStation 3 games despite both utilizing Blu-Ray discs; that one eludes me.
