You Won't Believe What Call Of Duty 2019 Is Called

It's even sillier than 'Black Ops IIII'.

Following months of rumours surrounding the next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise, there's finally been some clarification on what the game is going to be called. While it's been pretty much an open secret that Activision are developing another entry in the Modern Warfare sub-series, they're apparently not opting to title it Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, like most people anticipated.

Instead, according to a bunch of reliable sources, they're dropping the numbers altogether, and going for the far cleaner... wait for it...

Wait... what?

That's right, despite this being the fourth instalment in the MW series, and there already being a game called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (and a remaster of the same name), this is the title the publisher is going with.

Now, it does make a little bit of sense, as according to Kotaku's Jason Schreier the game is apparently going to be more of a "soft reboot" rather than a proper continuation of Modern Warfare 3, but it still seems a bit silly.

Yes, we live in a world where there are two different games called God of War that take place in the same universe, two games called Prey, and two different versions of Hitman 1 and 2, but this is notable because it continues the trend of Activision coming up with confusing titles for their most recent Call of Duty games.

It might make some sense, but it's no doubt going to lead to a bunch of disappointed kids expecting to open the latest COD come Christmas morning, only to realise their parents have picked up the over-ten-year-old original Modern Warfare instead.
