10 Best Performances From 2024 Horror Movies

8. Lauren LaVera & David Howard Thornton - Terrifier 3

Terrifier 3 is a film that's just jam-packed full of surprises. Not content to be the highest-grossing unrated film of all time, the slasher threequel also boasts not merely one excellent performance, but two.

First up, we have David Howard Thornton, who once again reprises the role of iconic antagonist Art the Clown, bringing a level of physicality and expressiveness to the part that's easy to underestimate. Given that Art is an entirely mute character, Thornton needs to do a lot of the storytelling with his eyes, facial expressions, and body language - and he absolutely knocks it out of the park!

But David Howard Thornton is perfectly matched by Lauren LaVera, who also returns as the previous film's heroine, Sienna Shaw. As fundamentally ridiculous as this movie might be, LaVera's performance as a young woman traumatised by Art's rampage grounds the film emotionally, no matter how absurd its grisly death scenes might be.

LaVera commits to the part like she's gunning for an Oscar, and the end product is all the better for it.
