With 2024 now scarily, speedily underway - how is it February already? - it's set to be another big year for horror. Hot on the heels of an excellent 2023 which delivered the likes of Evil Dead Rise, M3GAN, When Evil Lurks, and Talk to Me, there's plenty for horror hounds to look forward to right now.

Of course, no genre of cinema is as synonymous with franchises as the murky world of horror, and a whole bunch of those big-name franchises are set for a huge 2024 and beyond. Some of the heaviest hitters in the game are gearing up to return to movie theatres or our TV screens - or in the case of some IPs, both!

For of some of these franchises, they're picking up the momentum of a hot few years where their particular brand of horror is concerned. As for certain other franchises, they may have been dormant for years or even decades, with fresh output now finally back on the horizon.

So, with that in mind, here are ten horror franchises for whom 2024 should prove to be a massive year by the time all's said and done.

10. The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is a property that forever has its wheels spinning, expanding on its existing lore and looking to spotlight new angles to the post-apocalyptic world that's dominated by the shuffling undead and the even more sinister threat of certain humans. And 2024 is no different for the wider Walking Dead franchise, with plenty more horrors on the way.

First and foremost, the story of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) will be picked up with in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Premiering on 25 February, this series will follow-on from the end of the main Walking Dead show, as Michonne looks to finally find her once-believed-dead partner. Pollyanna McIntosh will be back as Jadis, the CRM officer who played such a pivotal part in Rick's disappearance, and she'll be joined by Lost favourite Terry O'Quinn, who'll be playing Major General Beale, a villainous character teased throughout The Walking Dead: World Beyond and someone already responsible for countless deaths.

Elsewhere, 2024 finds the Maggie and Negan-centric Walking Dead: Dead City with a second season in production, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon renewed for a second year known as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol, and Tales of the Walking Dead to be followed by More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe.
