10 Horror Movie Final Girls Who Actually Weren't
1. Sister Barnes - Heretic
The recently released Heretic revolves around a pair of Mormon missionaries, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), who attempt to convert a reclusive man, Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), only to end up trapped inside his home.
Reed spends the movie tormenting the pair in order to prove his ultimate thesis, that control is at the root of all religions. While we as the audience are never in much doubt that at least one of the girls will escape in the end, it probably isn't the one you expected.
Sister Barnes is very clearly the more natural final girl of the pair, given that she's decidedly more worldly than the evidently naive Sister Paxton, and that she's being played by the more well-known actress of the two - Yellowjackets star Sophie Thatcher.
But in the end, Barnes is mortally wounded by Reed, yet she musters up just enough strength to kill Reed before she dies. This leaves Paxton, who has shown herself to be far more of a survivor than anticipated throughout the third act, free to escape captivity.
