10 Horror Movie Final Girls Who Actually Weren't

6. Sam - The Mortuary Collection

The Mortuary Collection
Shudder

2019's horror anthology The Mortuary Collection wasn't merely content to offer up a compendium of compelling horror stories - it also bamboozled viewers with one hell of a deranged wraparound.

The frame narrative revolves around a young woman named Sam (Caitlin Custer) who applies for a job at Raven's End Mortuary, where she's regaled with three terrifying tales by mortician Montgomery Dark (a brilliant Clancy Brown).

In the third act, however, Sam decides to tell Dark her own story, revealing that she's far from the final girl material she clearly appears to be. Rather, she's a serial murderer known as the Tooth Fairy Killer who kills and eats children, and her real name is actually Charlotte Gibbons.

Charlotte certainly gets hers, though, as at the film's end she's torn apart by the spirits of her young victims, before Dark sews her back together and installs her as the mortuary's new undead mortician - a job which she's unable to leave.

Hands up if you saw any of this coming.
