10 Horror Movie Final Girls Who Actually Weren't

7. Kim Hammond - Prom Night (1980)

The original Prom Night offers up a highly unique instance of the not-final-girl, because while she neither dies nor is revealed to be a secret villain, she was never actually being targeted by the killer at all.

Prom Night's female lead is Kim Hammond (Jamie Lee Curtis), with the film cleverly playing off Jamie Lee Curtis' newly-minted scream queen status from Halloween, which was released just two years prior. Though Kim is the main character and survives to the end, we eventually find out that she was never really in danger at all, because the killer is actually her twin brother Alex (Michael Tough), was was only hunting down those who caused their sister's death years prior.

It's certainly an interesting way to present the female lead in a slasher movie - on a superficial level, Kim appears to be the obvious final girl, but she's siloed away from the murder and mayhem for almost the entirety of the movie.

The best argument you can make is that Kim is the final girl by default, but if she wasn't ever in the game, can you really call her a player?
