10 Horror Movies That Switch The Main Character Halfway

4. Annabelle: Creation

Martyrs 2008
Warner Bros.

Annabelle: Creation is the sequel to the first spin-off of The Conjuring.

After Samuel and Esther Mullins open their home to a group of orphans, the house is plagued by strange occurrences. One child - polio-stricken girl Janice - notices the paranormal phenomena stems from a doll called Annabelle, who harbours a dark spirit.

Because she's often isolated from the others, Janice proves to be easy pray for the demon. Before she has a chance to uncover the truth, the evil entity possesses Janice, using her body as a conduit to attack others.

With Janice out of commission, her best friend Linda does all she can to destroy the malignant fiend. Realising the threat she poses, the supernatural being uses Janice's body to target Linda, forcing the friends to fight each other.

Unable to free Janice from the demon's influence, Linda leaves her friend, never to see her again. After Linda is taken in by another orphanage (with no demons this time), it looks like she got a happy ending.

Sadly, the same can't be said about Janice. The epilogue cuts to 12 years later, with the malevolent spirit still in control of her body, with the Janice that Linda once knew long-gone.
