10 Horror Sequels EVERYONE Wants To See
5. Friday the 13th: Part 13

It's truly maddening that the last Friday the 13th movie was released over 15 years ago, and that despite 2009's franchise reboot grossing $92.7 million against a $19 million budget, a sequel wasn't swiftly produced.
Though that was the original plan, Paramount and New Line Cinema's financial issues prevented it from going ahead.
However, in the years that followed there were murmurs of a new Friday the 13th movie in 3D and even a found footage take on the franchise, neither of which panned out.
A planned thirteenth movie, one version of which was even called Friday the 13th: Part 13, had its release date moved back numerous times, and then a legal dispute between original Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller and producer Sean S. Cunningham further held up progress.
This lawsuit was finally fully resolved in 2021, and in 2022, an A24-produced Crystal Lake TV series was announced, which would serve as a prequel to the films.
Yet the response to this project has been mixed among the fandom, with some simply wanting a new Jason movie rather than a prequel show.
The TV series' production has itself faced behind-the-scenes issues, and more than two years after it was announced, it still hasn't started shooting.
Given the commercial popularity of Jason, what's so hard about just making a new Friday the 13th movie under the low-budget Blumhouse model? That's all most fans want.
