When Japanese horror took the Western world by storm during the millennium, it didn't take long for an American rendition of The Grudge to be developed. Despite being put together by the original creator, Takashi Shimizu, this adaptation felt like a lazy rehash.

However, there's one moment in the remake that delivered a pretty exceptional scare. Social worker, Yoko Maki, is hired to take care of a woman suffering with dementia, unaware the house is haunted by a murderous oni. After Yoko disappears, her employer, Alex, ventures into the home to investigate.

When he sees Yoko shuffling around aimlessly, Alex calls out to her, compelling her to turn and face him. Only then does Alex see Yoko is now a reanimated jawless corpse, with her tongue dangling around her open throat.

Even though less is supposedly more, the scene is scarier in the extended cut, since viewers are given more time to admire the incredible attention to detail in Yoko's design.
