Not to be confused with the Angelina Jolie vehicle of the same name, 1980's The Changeling is an utter marvel of a movie, brimming with suspense, tension, and nicely serving as both a thriller and an outright horror picture.

Played by an absolutely phenomenal George C. Scott, John Russell is a composer who tragically loses his wife and daughter in an opening act car accident. Moving from New York City to a remote Seattle mansion to isolate himself with his grief, John begins to notice strange goings-on in the abode, such as taps turning themselves on, items moving, and banging noises.

One particularly disturbing incident, sees the rubber ball of John's deceased daughter roll down the property's lavish staircase. The broken fella takes that ball to a nearby bridge and drops it in the water below, desperate to not be reminded of what he's lost.

In a startling turn of events, back at the house, wouldn't you know it, but that rubber ball comes bouncing back down the stairs. While that itself is quite the visual, even more jaw-dropping is the shot that reveals the ball is wet.

And with that, John decides to fully investigate the history of this chilling house and its prior inhabitants.
