One of the more somewhat underrated vampire movies, 30 Days of Night is a chilling, atmospheric, nicely gorey 2007 offering adapted from Steve Niles' graphic novel of the same name.

Set in the sleepy Alaska town of Barrow, we find this locale at a time when its about to commence its annual period of one whole month without any daylight. With Josh Hartnett's Sheriff Eben Oleson and his distanced wife Stella leading the charge, the town is thrown into histeria when a flock of vampires descend upon the inhabitants of Barrow.

The vampiric figures shown here are some of the most terrifying ever committed to film, with them mixing meticulous thinking with visceral aggression, and even displaying a devilish splash of twisted playfulness at certain times we see them toying with their food.

In a film brimming with unsettling shots, a particularly bleak one comes when these vampires properly unleash their wrath on the people of Barrow. Here, we get a somewhat beautiful, but utterly unsettling aerial shot as the locals desperately try to escape their visitors, resulting in a snowy landscape filled with dead bodies, bloodshed, gunshots, and general mass panic.
