10 Recent Horror Movies That Didn't Deserve To Bomb
8. Ash
Last year, The Substance proved that body horror can also make big bank at the box office, and while nobody expected Flying Lotus' new sci-fi horror film Ash to do nearly as well, one still hoped the well-received genre offering might prove itself a minor hit.
Despite some flashy, eye-popping trailers and the appealing presence of Eiza González and Aaron Paul, Ash made just $1.1 million globally, and while the movie's budget hasn't ever been announced, its trippy visual splendour suggests it cost much, much more than that figure.
While in narrative terms, Ash isn't really doing anything new, it's one hell of a vibes movie, with every frame being soaked in pure, uneasy atmosphere, alongside solid performances from González and Paul. That is to say, this was absolutely made to be seen and heard on the big screen, and yet, so few people actually experienced it that way.
One can only hope that Ash gets rediscovered on streaming and wins itself cult curio status, rather than vanishing quietly into the content abyss.
