20 Best Christmas Horror Movies You NEED To Watch

15. The Advent Calendar

French-Belgian horror The Advent Calendar is centered around Eva (Eugénie Derouand), a paraplegic ex-dancer whose friend gifts her an antique advent calendar before Christmas.

But behind each door isn't merely a sweet treat. Each door also offers Eva the ability to change her life in ways both minor and major, the consequences of which go far beyond her wildest expectations.

It goes without saying that The Advent Calendar is very obviously inspired by the elemental tale of The Monkey's Paw, but the constant unfurling of macabre new surprises helps this take feel fresh throughout. Eugénie Derouand gives a fantastic performance in the central role, and considering how few paraplegic protagonists we've seen in horror movies, the representation is certainly welcome.

Basically, if you thought Wish Upon had a great central concept but just squandered the execution horribly - to admittedly hilarious ends - The Advent Calendar is what you might get instead if the creatives knew what they were doing.
