20 Great Horror Roles Ruined By Terrible Acting
6. Final Destination - Clear Rivers
Final Destination is one of horror's best and most consistent franchises, yet one key problem has dogged nearly all of the movies: the acting.
The recent Final Destination: Bloodlines broke the mould by being really well-acted across the board, but the other movies have all suffered from their inconsistent casts. One of the most jarring instances of this is Clear Rivers, one of only two characters in the series to appear more than once.
In the excellent original movie, Clear has an intriguing, tragic backstory and an endearing romance with lead Alex Browning (Devon Sawa), but Ali Larter is pretty weak throughout the film. This is especially noticeable in the scene where Clear discusses her father's death, a moment that would've been more heartbreaking with better line-readings from Larter. In an awful lot of her scenes, Devon Sawa - who gives a genuinely strong performance - has to do most of the heavy lifting.
Much like Melissa Barrera, Ali Larter did improve markedly in her second appearance (in Final Destination 2), but it's a shame her first go as the character wasn't better.
