20 Great Horror Roles Ruined By Terrible Acting
5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 - Stretch
In 1986, Tobe Hooper made a sequel to his 1974 masterpiece The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and he went down the black comedy route, to disastrous effect. Though not quite as godawful as some of the other instalments in this series, this is still a thoroughly underwhelming sequel, with one of its biggest issues being its awful Final Girl, Stretch (Caroline Williams), a radio host who gets pursued by Leatherface and his sick family.
In terms of the writing, Stretch is just fine. Rather, it's the acting that completely lets her down. Caroline Williams gives a screechy, migraine-inducing performance that makes Stretch irritating to the point of being virtually unbearable. As a result, she deserves to be called one of the all-time worst Final Girls in a horror movie. If nothing else, there aren't many others that gave you this much of a headache.
In all honesty, some viewers might've hoped that this sequel would break slasher convention and kill off its Final Girl. This wasn't the case, and Stretch is the only major character alive at the end, although, somehow, despite his apparent death in this one, Leatherface popped up alive and well in 1990's third instalment without an explanation. Thankfully, Stretch never returned.
