20 Great Horror Roles Ruined By Terrible Acting
1. Bram Stoker's Dracula - Jonathan Harker
And finally, we've got Keanu Reeves in Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. This is one of the worst performances in a good movie ever, and one more time, it's a case of 'Death by Miscasting'.
Keanu Reeves, sometimes dubbed the internet's boyfriend, sounds like a brilliant guy, but he is a limited performer. He can be very funny, and he's a masterful physical actor in his action roles, but was he really the right choice to play an emotionally tormented, mild-mannered, vulnerable Victorian gentleman? Absolutely not!
As well as delivering one of the worst British accents ever put to film, Reeves looks constipated all the way through Dracula, and fails to ever realize any of the character's emotions in a convincing way. His performance would be bad enough on its own, but when he's surrounded by actors like Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, and Anthony Hopkins, all of whom are absolutely killing it, his work seems even more embarrassing.
It will never not be inexplicable that Keanu Reeves didn't get a Razzie nod for this - lest we forget, this was the year when Danny DeVito's amazing work in Batman Returns somehow got a nomination for Worst Supporting Actor - and this remains one of the horror genre's worst-ever performances.
